The SDDN has been a little quiet since its first meeting in December - but there
is a great reason! We've been busy organising this fantastic event.
The day will be instructor lead - with the trainees following along each and every
step. Yep that's right - no boring reading and doing labs... everything is run through
by the instructor. In our experience this method simply rocks. Also, we hate PowerPoint
slides - so we've kept them to an absolute minimum. Be ready to jump straight in
to the goods.
We'll cover:
- Introduction to Silverlight and XAML
- Expression Blend
- Control Templates
- Networking
- Media
- Plus more... (like animation etc)
If that sounds like a lot to cover in one day then you'd be right... we'll be setting
a cracking pace. Each lab will be made available as a handout which you can go over
later.
The day is aimed at those who have never used Silverlight before but have some familiarity
with web technologies. This includes both designers and developers.
During the session there will always be two specialists available to help you out
if you get stuck (the third will be up the front directing the class).
What do you have to bring?
It's really quite easy... NOTHING. Not even lunch. You will be provided with a machine
with all the required software, course material and of course the all important
free lunch.
This day is simply not to be missed -> next time you can almost guarentee we won't
be able to do it for free. So get in fast to secure your spot!
If you would like to see this event in your city then drop an email to the [email protected]
email... we'd love to take this on the road, so make sure you pipe up show your
interest!
Thanks!
A very big thankyou goes out to Joerg and the team at Microsoft for making this day a possibility!
Without Microsoft's help would could not possibly do this day for free - we would
have to charge over $100 a head to come close to breaking even. So, thanks guys!

Who will this group interest?
The focus of the group is not just on developers. Traditionally developers have
had great community support, whereas designers not so much... now that Silverlight
2 is out we plan to change this.
Silverlight is as interesting for developers as it is for designers. Due in part
to Silverlight's excellent separation of design and development concerns we have
new problems to solve around finding the best ways to work together. To this end
the SDDN will facilitate an ongoing discussion and promote the development of ideas
and best practices for anyone who works with Silverlight.
Meetings will also include specialist topics targeted at designers or developers
at a range of levels. It's got something for everyone :)
Why is it a "network" and not just a "SIG"?
Along with the usual meetings and dev days, this group will encourage online community.
To help kick this off, all sessions will be recorded and available free online from
this site within hours of the talks.
The site will also feature syndicated blogs, a forum and some other special goodies
which we will announce later.
